Welder Job Description
 
Position Summary:
Nextaff of Overland Park is searching for a MIG Welder in the KCK area. This individual will perform metal (primarily steel) fabrication and welding on a daily basis to create custom-designed machinery for the quarry construction industry. The welder is responsible for various types of structural welding, including preparation, welding, and finishing operations. This is a busy shop with a growing customer base and specified production deadlines. Successful applicant must be in good physical condition and able to work in a steel fabrication shop environment on a daily basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborating directly with plant manager, shop supervisor, customer, drafter, and peers to produce finished products
  • Proficient in modern welding techniques and equipment
  • Using wire and filler material applications for various steel fabrication
  • Using manual and power tools for finish grinding applications
  • Utilizing knowledge of various machines, welding practices, mathematics and building materials
  • Reading, understanding and following detailed drawings and blueprint specifications
  • Performing all job functions and using all equipment safely by following all safety policies and good housekeeping practices
  • Handling other duties as assigned within the scope of the position
 
Job Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Legally eligible to work in the Unites States.
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Two+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing and background checks
  • Must be able to pass a weld test equivalent to AWS D1.1
  • Broad technical experience in steel fabrication, assembly, and welding
  • Time management
Job Skills Competencies:
  • Must have working knowledge of welding shop operations
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • This position requires sitting, standing, twisting, squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing and pulling on a daily basis
  • Must be able to work indoors or outdoors under a variety of temperatures and weather conditions
  • Must wear applicable PPE to perform job tasks
