SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the Service Technician performs a range of tasks required for proper service and maintenance to company and customer owned equipment ensuring reliable operation of such equipment, in accordance with established company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial machinery or equipment.
Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment.
Disassemble machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using testing devices.
Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery.
Examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from operators to diagnose equipment problems.
Record parts or materials used and order or requisition new parts or materials as necessary.
Record repairs and maintenance performed.
Study schematics or manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation or operation of machinery.
Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, or assemble new equipment.
Demonstrate equipment functions and features to machine operators.
Keep rental area organized for inbound/outbound rental exchange.
Manage company owned tool inventory.
Keep Service area safe and organized.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Branch Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including machine and/or tool design, uses and maintenance requirements/history.
Must be able to apply proper principles, techniques and procedures to the repair and maintenance of industrial machinery or equipment.
Must be able to determine cause of operating errors and decide how to correct the issue(s).
Must be able to discern what type and frequency of required maintenance is needed on industrial machinery or equipment.
Must be able to perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
Must be able to interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
Must be able to work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school degree or GED
Completion of Trade School Certificate Program or Associates Degree preferred
5 years related on the job experience, or a combination of 3 years of both education and experience
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Must have the ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Must have the ability to effectively present information to co-workers, supervisors and top management.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must have the ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Must have the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must have the ability to stand continuously or almost continuously.
Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, crawl under industrial machinery or equipment.
Must have the ability to climb a ladder.
Must have the ability to keep hands/arms steady while holding hands/arms in one position.
Must have the ability to quickly move hands or arms, make precise and coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands, use hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble objects.
Must have the ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust controls of a machine or piece of equipment to exact positions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to the Warehouse/Operations areas where certain areas may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection is common.
Exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration is common.
Exposure to outdoor elements such as heat, cold and rain is common.
