TITLE: Part Time Program Aide
REPORTS TO: Activities Manager
STATUS: Nonexempt - Part Time
Position Overview
Provide general supervision and assistance to participants in classes and activities at the Center. This is a 25 hour part-time, hourly, non-exempt, benefited position. Center hours are M-F, 9am-2:30pm.
Essential Job Functions
- Meet and greet participants and assist them upon arrival; help participants to tables, serve beverages/food, and clear tables (for morning social and lunch times).
- Set up rooms for the scheduled classes and activities. Move tables, chairs, and partition wall as needed.
- Assist participants to desired activity following level of assist required as determined by PT.
- Lead and/or supervise and engage the participants in classes, activities, and social time per daily schedule to ensure the participants’ safety, proper care, and comfort.
- Perform as a “spotter” for activities, including charting as required.
- Provide personal care to the participants, such as grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene that ensures the participant is clean, dry, and comfortable. Follow toileting schedule and chart as required.
- Assist with meal/coffee service.
- Maintain positive working relationship with all staff members, volunteers, families, and participants.
- Spend work time, as required, learning about working with the elderly and the medical conditions of the participants.
- Understand the elements of a therapeutic environment and work with the staff to encourage maximum functioning and benefit to the participants.
- Understand and be able to demonstrate proper body mechanics and universal precautions.
- Observe participants for any physical or mental changes and changes in behavior. Report any observed changes to appropriate Interdisciplinary Team member.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings and in-services.
- Comply with health and safety standards including licensing, fire and disaster preparedness regulations and agency policies.
- Conform to all applicable policies of the Center
Secondary Job Functions
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Activity Manager.
- Assist with procurement and set-up of craft related projects if requested. Distribute completed projects to participants.
Qualifications
- CNA preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work with seniors in a demonstrated friendly and caring manner.
- Ability to provide assistance in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
- Experience with and knowledge of older adult and dependent care issues.
- Skill in communicating verbally and nonverbally with participants.
- Desire to learn more about caring for this population.
- Initiative, common sense, friendly nature, and ability to work as a member of the team.
- Bilingual ability (Spanish or Mandarin) a plus.
- This role requires substantive interaction with participants and a high level of tact and judgment in caring for higher-care participants.
- Must be CPR certified or willing to take certification class (provided by employer).
Physical Demands

- Stand for 95% of the workday while performing all of the above responsibilities.
- Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver and reposition 35 lbs.
- Ability to reach, bend, and walk.
- Frequent stand/walk, sit, use a computer; use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
- Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp forcefully, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, write by hand, sort/file paperwork.
- Regularly required to push wheelchairs
- TB and health clearance required.
Hours and Compensation
