Job Description

POSITION OVERVEW & PURPOSE: The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and performing simple programming to one or more machines used in the production of hollow metal doors in workstations that include but are not limited to machines that: bend, notch, punch, form or straighten frame parts. This is a mechanical position under the supervision of the Production Supervisor.
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 
• Perform and ensure operation of equipment by following preventative maintenance policies and procedures as assigned by the Leadership Team. 
• Works in machining areas where tasks and job duties may vary (see above workstations). 
• Follow and build job orders according to customer specifications on the daily travelers. 
• May require retrieval of door parts necessary for completion of finished door product. 
• Understand and identify all components that comprise the finished product as described in the SDI handbook.
 • Report production and quality data as dictated in daily travelers to supervisor.
 • Make required adjustments to correct quality errors. 
• Always maintain an organized work environment, may require inspection by the Leadership Team. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Leadership Team to support company goals.
 • Participation in company Safety Program. 
• Based on proficiency may be required to train in Machining workstations. 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 
• Operate simple hand or power tools to modify required door materials. 
• Handle materials such as metal, etc.
 • Must be able to lift to 75 pounds repetitively. 
• Must be able to push and/or pull carts up to 75 pounds.
 • Must use and be able to work with required PPE. 
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time. 
• Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching. 
• The noise level of the warehouse is moderate to loud. 
• Based on proficiency could work under heavy to limited supervision. 
• Uphold all safety standards applicable to the responsibilities above.
 • Must be able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment.
 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 
• Previous manufacturing experience preferred. 
• Depending on experience could be required to shadow one or more workstations above.
 • Routine assessments of workstation proficiency are conducted – individual must pass one or more workstations as listed above. 
• Must be able to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions and standard work tickets.
 • Must possess basic computer skills, basic math skills required, proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills. 
• May be required to use a forklift. 
• Must be able to work independently as well as in a group environment. 
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
 • Must demonstrate basic problem-solving skills. 
• Good organizational skills related to managing paperwork and time.
