Position: Buyer Trainee/Associate Buyer
Status: temporary-permanent
Location: Kansas City, MO, local only, no overnight travel
Compensation: hourly wage initially $15-$25 DOE
Hours: M-F, 8:00-4:45, 1-2 Saturday mornings per month
Reports to: President, Accounts Manager/Metallurgist

Description:
Position for a temporary-permanent Buyer Trainee/Associate Buyer for an established
local scrap metal recycling company. Candidate will serve a determined training period, then assume a book of established local accounts, as well as pursue developing new business.
Candidate will grade and purchase Ferrous/Non-Ferrous scrap metal commodities from local commercial and industrial accounts, and prepare and submit bids per President’s material grading and pricing guidelines and directives. Candidate will interact with Dispatch and Operations to determine service scheduling, equipment availability and capabilities, and material grading and handling capabilities. 
 
Duties:
Answer customer inquiries via phone, text, email in a courteous and timely manner.
Evaluate and qualify customers.
. Schedule in person sales appointments with existing and prospective customers.
. Make cold calls in the field regularly to search for new business potential.
. Search for leads and business development via customer referrals, web searches, and business    networking.
. Establish and retain account base.
. Occasionally attend afternoon/early evening applicable professional business networking events.
 . Grade and purchase Ferrous/Non-Ferrous scrap metal commodities according to company and industry standards and specifications.
. Submit quotations either verbally or via email per President’s pricing directives and guidelines.
. Assist with truck scale operations and answer incoming phone calls occasionally and as needed.

. Customer service experience preferred.
. Ability to interact with a variety of customer personnel on different levels.
. Good oral and written communication skills.
. Mature and ethical individual who can work independently upon completion of training.
. Strong sense of urgency.
. Detail oriented.
. Ability to work with colleagues in a “win-win” collaborative manner.
. Ability to take “ownership” of assigned account base.
. Willingness to resolve account issues.
. Strong “customer service” attitude.
