Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Notify supervisor immediately in the event of an incident, injury, safety concern, or disruptive behavior.
  • Work collaboratively as part of the healthcare team to maintain a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for patients.
  • Build positive rapport with patients while fostering a respectful and compassionate atmosphere.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
  • Stay alert and attentive during shifts to provide appropriate supervision, assistance, and support for patients’ activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and medication reminders (as directed).
  • Assist patients in engaging with hospital programs, activities, and therapeutic outings as assigned.
  • Provide orientation to new patients as directed, ensuring they understand routines, expectations, and available resources.
  • Transport patients safely when required, following hospital protocols and maintaining vehicle safety standards (if applicable).
  • Accurately document patient care, incidents, and observations in a timely and professional manner according to hospital policy.
  • Monitor the care environment for cleanliness, safety, and compliance with hospital standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and clinical discussions as requested by supervisor.
  • Respond to patient needs promptly, using safe and supportive approaches to de-escalate challenging situations when necessary.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and respectful communication with colleagues to promote a positive work environment.
  • Receive and provide shift reports to ensure continuity of care and communicate relevant updates.
  • Monitor patient belongings for safety concerns or prohibited items, reporting and addressing issues according to hospital procedures.
  • Screen visitors and phone calls in alignment with hospital policies to protect patient safety and privacy.
  • Assist with housekeeping or unit maintenance tasks as assigned to support a clean and safe patient environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Qualifications:

Required:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license (if position involves patient transport).
  • Completion of CPR and crisis intervention training (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
  • Ability to meet hospital requirements for driving or patient transport, if applicable.
Preferred:
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social services, healthcare, or related field.
  • Experience in a hospital, residential, or crisis care setting.
  • Previous experience working with adult patients in a behavioral health or medical environment.
  • Three or more years of experience in a healthcare or mental health support role.
